Harbourview Training Center is a non-profit organization located
in Souris, Prince Edward Island. We provide vocational training, on
site employment and job training as well as a broad range of support
services to clients with intellectual disabilities who live in the
Morell to East Point district.
As an agency which promotes inclusion, we strongly
believe in the principles of creating opportunities for
individuals with an intellectual disability to
participate in their community, not only socially and
economically, but by allowing individuals to gain a
stronger sense of self worth and independence.
Presently we provide services for 25 clients, with a
number of these clients being new. Programs that are
offered at our center are a full time bakery division,
wood workshop division and a skills enhancement program.
We assist and support with gaining meaningful employment
within the community and providing learning activities
for increased individual skill development. We work
closely with the Souris Regional High School in the
transition process of students from school to community.
Harbourview also provides outreach services for six
clients, four of whom also attend our regular
programming.
In the summer of 2008, we started a "Learning Made
Fun" Summer Program for youth with an intellectual
disability. The program operates for nine weeks over the
summer months. Youth learn while taking a part in a
number of events such as field trips, recreation,
library tours, grocery store visits and community
awareness/life skills. We continue to receive requests
on a regular basis from families and support workers of
potential clients to set up programs and support for
these potential clients. |
